Bureau of Inspection & Fees

The Bureau of Inspection & Fees is responsible for the enforcement of the Georgia State Construction Codes, (off site) Georgia Accessibility and Fire Laws relative to the construction and renovations to both new and existing buildings within the City of Macon and Bibb County. These codes and standards are necessary to insure the safety and health of the occupants of a building.

The Main Duties of the Bureau of Inspection & Fees are:

• Issues and maintains construction permits
• Reviews plans, specifications and construction documents for code compliance
• Performs field investigations and inspections for code compliance
• Issues certificate of occupancies

Owners and contractors are responsible for obtaining appropriate permits from the Bureau of Inspection & Fees prior to starting construction or renovations on a building.
